Personal Statement
by Michelle Thomas
On some level exists an understanding of human beauty as realized without judgment,
shock, preference. Stripped to its authenticity and candidly expressed that way,
simply and accurately absorbing and reflecting light. The way the human figure
is really. The way it is, always was and will be. My work is in search of this
way. A focused energy of color and balance to create a truthful representation
for all of us to learn from. To confront our curiosities and stereotypes and ideas
and misunderstandings about what human beauty is. I hold up a mirror. I let people
look. The process for me has always been an obsession with the technical to express
the intellectual with hopes of gaining emotional understanding. A meeting of craft
and theory, labor and love, mind and body. A time-sensitive connection with the
questions of a larger conscious, a greater struggle, comforting and exciting and
searched out with veiled curiosity.
