Michelle M. Thomas

Biography


Michelle Thomas was born in 1959 in Chicago and grew up in Roselle, IL. Her mother and father were born and raised in Chicago. She is the second oldest of six girls and mother to one son. Her father is an interior designer and past president of IBD (Interior Business Designers) and her mother, a lifetime volunteer for the conservation of aquatic life.

Thomas enrolled in her first figure drawing class at age sixteen at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL, where her passion for figure drawing and painting was recognized. She exhibited throughout her high school years at community art fairs and art competitions at the high school and her first juried group exhibit was in 1980 at Madison Square Gardens, New York, NY. Since that time she acquired a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with national honors and has continued to exhibit in numerous group shows throughout the Chicagoland area.

Presently, an instructor at Suburban Fine Arts Center in Highland Park, IL and Sharpe Expressions in Arlington Heights, IL. Her memberships include the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago and the Women’s Caucus for Art, Chicago Chapter.

What is portrayed in Michelle Thomas’s art is the existence of women’s feelings of desire, fear, temptation and all that has developed from a woman living in contemporary society.
