An American artist of Hispanic heritage (Argentina), Kyra Belan received her B. F. A. at Arizona State University and her M. F. A. at Florida State University, both degrees in Visual Arts. Her Ed. D., from Florida International University, is in Community College Education and Art History. Currently, Dr. Belan is professor of art and art history at Broward Community College, Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The artist has had over forty solo exhibitions and over seventy five group exhibitions across the country and abroad, including Museum of Art, Ft. Dr. Belan has co-authored a book, titled Dorothy Gillespie, Radford University Press, and is the author of a book titled Earth, Spirit, Gender: Visual Language for the New Reality, Forbes, 1996.
Kyra Belan has received numerous awards and grants, including the Individual Artist Fellowship from Florida Arts Council, Barbara Deming Memorial Fund Grant and Outstanding Artist of the Southeast, and she is listed in Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who of American Women, Outstanding Young Women of America, and Who's Who in the South and Southeast.
